Happy Trails Pickleball Leagues

Starting October 31st, 2005
(revised Feb 11th, 2009)

A League – Played on Mondays at 1pm

B League – Played on Tuesdays at 1pm

C League – Played on Wednesdays at 1pm

A, B, & C leagues are composed of players who want a competitive atmosphere where their play determines their “ranking” and “who” they will play the following week. Players will move up and down the ladder based on their WINS. Three wins should move you up, zero wins should move you down, and 1 or 2 will keep your ranking about the same. Initial placement in either league will be determined by the league captains and where possible based on last years rankings.

Players will automatically move from B Ladder to A if they have been in one of the top two positions of B for 3 out of the last 4 weeks played. Likewise, players will automatically move from A to B if they've been in one of the bottom two positions of A 3 out of the last 4 weeks played. Players moving up will start at the bottom and players moving down will be placed at the top. They will carry their byes. - revised Feb 11th, 2009

R League not active

R league is composed of players who want to play without the pressure of competition and rankings. Each week a schedule will be posted but the foursomes will be determined randomly. Tallies of the wins will be posted but not used.

General Rules

You must be a member of the Happy Trails Pickleball club to participate.

-                      Players will play three 15-point games (win by 2 pts) in a round-robin fashion with the other players of the foursome. At the start of each game, a coin/paddle will be flipped. The winning side has the choice of serve or court end and the loser has the remaining selection. It is recommended that the players change ends when the first side reaches 8 point to minimize the effects of wind and sun.

-                      If a player if unable to play on a given day, they MUST notify the league captain no later than 2 days prior to play. The groupings will then be done without that player. Missed games are not made up. This player will be given an “off-week” and their ranking will be adjusted as if they had only won “1” game.

-                      The schedule will be posted 48 hours prior to league play. If a player is unable to play and the day’s schedule has already been posted, that player is responsible for notifying the other 3 players of the foursome and acquiring a substitute player or scheduling an alternate time for the match. Substitute players may be chosen from players with “byes” or another player playing in the same league if they are willing to play their own match plus the substitute match. In all cases, the substitute player’s wins will not be counted towards their rankings. # Players that fail to show up without notice may be suspended from the league for 2 weeks. In the case when a sub or make-up match is not possible, the absent player will be given an “off” week and the other players “byes”. In all cases, notify your league captain of what you are doing BEFORE the regular scheduled match.

-                      Each week when the schedule is created, there may be an uneven number of players to allow everyone to play in a foursome and “Byes” are assigned players. Byes are based on play start date in the leagues, skipping anyone who has already had a bye until all players have had one. A player assigned a “bye” will earn an equivalent of “1½” wins for the week to maintain their ranking. They may play as a substitute but will not earn wins since they are not playing at the correct ranking.

-                      Game scores must be recorded on the league schedule that is posted at the courts.

# - Rule change at 11/17/04 meeting.
